We have been discovering plants. Today we pulled one of our plant out of the soil to see what the roots looked like. They smelled very interesting. It was really neat to see what was happening under the soil.

Buy One Get Three Free

When we are working with our fact families we can use a fact family triangle. It helps us to know all the number sentence without having to use our fingers.

If we know that 11 + 3 = 14 then we also know:
3+11=14
14-3=11
14-11=3
We can make one number sentence and get 3 for free! What a deal!

Happy Mothers Day

We wrote our moms letters about why we love them. We then recorded it for our moms to listen to. We hope you enjoy what we wrote. If you would like to comment back to your child you can record a comment using your phone. Simply click on comment and choose the phone option. You can tell your child why you love being their mom or that special person in their life.

Shapes are Everywhere

We have been learning that shapes can be found everywhere. In grade one we have been looking for 3D shapes all around us. We now know the difference between 2D and 3D shapes. Have your child review where 3D shapes can be found on the wallwisher. http://www.wallwisher.com/wall/SlempyShapes We are using what we are learning in Math to help us with our building unit. Check out this cool site that shows what shapes are the strongest and how to make them stronger. It is really neat! http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/buildingbig/lab/shapes.html

Welcome

The time has come to begin a blog to communicate with students and parents. I love our Wiki homework page but it really isn't cutting it for highlighting all the great things that are going on in grade one. I hope that you find this a useful place. Please let me know what you and your child thinks.
